It had been November since I had last been in London, so I felt another visit was overdue. I was going to be interviewed for a possible TV documentary on Saturday morning at the working flat in Finsbury Park of Catherine, the one time Oxford university student who now divides her time between her adult working career and her political activism trying to convince the powers that be of the needs for decent rights for people involved in adult work and her activities recruiting for the International Union of Sex Workers.

But since I was needed there early on Saturday, I decided to spend the previous day in London, where I had a few calls I needed to make on various establishments that had recently contacted me.

Setting off at 9, I got to my first call on Sensual Liaisons of Victoria just before 1. The proprietor had agreed to be there then and she was charming, being an Australian lady, who had worked at the Daily Planet, Sydney's leading establishment, in her time. We had a very productive chat and then at around 1.50, I was led into the principle working room and was very pleasantly entertained by Katrina, a slim very energetic and keen to please Polish lady. I emerged some time later exhausted, yet very satisfied.

I now headed over to Earl's Court and paid a very brief but financially rewarding call on the London Retreat, a veritable institution of a private flat occupying a basement flat not far from Earl's Court Tube Station, which specialises in mild domination from its ladies in a very well equipped premises. Over the years it has boasted some of the most notable ladies in the industry, some of whom have gone on to have very successful independent careers, but it always seems to come up with some top class talent to replace any stars leaving.

I had hoped to fit in a visit to a new establishment in Bermondsey, but I simply could not get through to anyone available to see me, so that will have to wait until my next visit to London and so the rest of the day was spent topping up various sex shops, firstly in Soho, and then I went on to King's Cross, Islington and Holloway, latterly with only limited success.

I finally decided to call in on an old schoolfriend, whose address I had only recently worked out from research on the internet. He lived in Highgate and back in the early 1970's, when I had last seen him, he had given me a lift from Watford gap to Highgate, when I had been hitchhiking down the M1.

I wondered if I was going to the correct address and I was greeted at the door by his wife, so I got the address right, but my timing was a bit off, my old friend Ian had died in 2001. His widow greeted me and we had a brief chat about my memories of Ian and then I headed back into the city to my hotel and got a good night's rest.

The following day I got over to Finsbury Park in good time for the interview, which went well and then I headed home stopping off at sex shops in Luton and Tamworth en route.
